What is Webcam Test?
Webcam Test checks that your camera works and shows how you look before a call. Allow camera access to see a live preview, switch between cameras, and check the real resolution and frame rate your webcam delivers. Take a snapshot to save a still image.
Use it before video interviews, online classes and meetings on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. The video is processed only in your browser — nothing is recorded or uploaded.
How to use Webcam Test
Get it done in 4 simple steps — no installation or account needed.
- Click “Start webcam test” and allow camera access when asked.
- Check the preview — adjust lighting and framing if needed.
- Switch cameras or quality to see what your device supports.
- Take a snapshot if you want to save a still image.
Limitations & supported browsers
Works in the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (Mac, iPhone and iPad) and Samsung Internet. Because processing happens on your device, speed and maximum file size depend on your device’s memory.
- Your browser asks for camera permission. If you previously blocked it, click the lock icon in the address bar to allow it again.
- The reported frame rate and resolution are what your browser receives, which can be lower than the camera’s maximum.
- Only one app can usually use the camera at a time — close Zoom, Teams or other camera apps first.

Webcam Test — frequently asked questions
Why does my webcam show a black screen?
Another app may be using the camera, the browser permission may be blocked, a privacy shutter may be closed, or the camera may be disabled in system settings. Close other video apps and try again.
Why is the image mirrored?
Previews are mirrored by default so movement feels natural, like a mirror. Others usually see you un-mirrored. Use the Mirror toggle to switch.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, and nothing is stored on our side.
