What is Image Compressor?

Image Compressor shrinks the file size of your photos and graphics while keeping them looking sharp. Drop in JPG, PNG or WebP images — one or a hundred — adjust the quality, optionally cap the width, and download optimized files individually or as a ZIP.

Smaller images make websites load faster, improve Core Web Vitals and SEO, and make sharing by email or chat painless. All compression happens locally in your browser, so private photos are never uploaded anywhere.

How to use Image Compressor

Get it done in 4 simple steps — no installation or account needed.

  1. Drop your images onto the upload area or click to select them.
  2. Set the quality (75% is a great default), the output format and an optional maximum width.
  3. Review the results — each image shows its new dimensions, size and percentage saved.
  4. Download images one by one, or click “Download all (ZIP)”.

Limitations & supported browsers

Works in the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (Mac, iPhone and iPad) and Samsung Internet. Because processing happens on your device, speed and maximum file size depend on your device’s memory.

  • Animated GIFs become a single still image.
  • Photo metadata (camera, GPS location and color profile) is removed. Wide-gamut photos may look very slightly less saturated.
  • Safari can’t create WebP images, so on iPhone and Mac Safari, WebP output is saved as JPG instead.
  • HEIC/HEIF photos only open in Safari.

Image Compressor — frequently asked questions

Will compressing reduce visible quality?

At 70–80% quality most people can’t see a difference, while files become several times smaller. Lower the slider further for maximum savings.

Does it remove photo metadata?

Yes. Re-encoding drops EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location, which also improves privacy.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, and nothing is stored on our side.

Which format gives the smallest files?

WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and is supported by all modern browsers.
